You Don't Have a Data Problem. You Have a Data-Creation Problem.

Every revenue leader wants to “leverage data.” Almost none of them have any to leverage. Leverage assumes a lever already exists — clean, structured, trustworthy records of what actually happened on a deal. Most CRMs don’t have that. They have a stage field a rep updated to look busy, a close date that’s really a guess, and notes that say “good call, follow up” instead of what was actually said. You can’t leverage what was never captured. The real first step, before any AI tool or dashboard, is building the discipline to make data in the first place.

Leverage is a second step pretending to be a first one

Every AI-for-sales pitch starts with “connect it to your data” — as if the data is sitting there, clean and waiting. In founder-led companies it usually isn’t. Deals get won or lost based on conversations that live only in a rep’s memory, a stage gets skipped because the rep “just knew” it was close, and the CRM becomes an activity log for management rather than a record of the actual sale. AI trained on that isn’t going to catch what’s wrong — it’s going to confidently repeat the same gaps back to you.

What making data actually looks like

It’s not a bigger CRM or more required fields. It’s a small number of habits, enforced weekly, that turn conversations into structure:

  • A call debrief that takes 90 seconds, not a paragraph — what was the stated pain, what’s the real cost of inaction, what’s the next concrete step. Three fields, filled in every time, beat thirty fields filled in occasionally.
  • A stage definition tied to a buyer action, not a rep’s opinion. “Proposal sent” means a proposal was sent — not “I think we’re close.”
  • A loss reason that’s specific enough to act on. “Price” is not a loss reason. “Chose incumbent because our onboarding timeline was six weeks longer” is.

None of this requires new software. It requires someone insisting on it every week until it’s a habit instead of a task.

Then, and only then, AI becomes leverage

Once a team is actually generating structured, honest data — not more data, just real data — AI tools go from novelty to genuinely useful: surfacing the deals that match your actual win pattern, drafting a follow-up grounded in what was really discussed, flagging a stalled deal before the rep admits it’s stalled. The tool didn’t get smarter. The input did.

This is the exact gap the AI Revenue Leverage Intensive is built to close — not more AI, but AI connected to data your team actually made.
